2025 NFL Draft: 8 Teams Looking to Trade Up

Kansas City Chiefs: Time to Pivot

The Kansas City Chiefs faced a tough defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LIX, but dwelling on past failures won't serve them well. The focus now shifts to addressing the weaknesses that cost them dearly.

A critical area that requires immediate attention is the offensive line, which struggled significantly throughout the season. As noted by Pro Football Focus analyst Zoltan Buday, the left tackle position has been a significant hurdle for the Chiefs.

“Players lining up at left tackle for the Chiefs in 2024 combined for a disappointing 50.0 PFF pass-blocking grade, allowing pressure on 11.3% of pass plays—both of which were the worst in the NFL. Such performance at this vital position is a recipe for disaster, and the Chiefs will undoubtedly need to take action. The options include reshuffling the line, moving right tackle Jawaan Taylor to the left side, bringing in new talent through free agency or the draft, or banking on one of their younger players to step up,” Buday stated.

Additionally, with guard Trey Smith potentially becoming too expensive in free agency, the Chiefs could find themselves with significant gaps on both the guard and tackle fronts.

Addressing at least one of these needs early in the 2025 draft is imperative.

Ranking Every NFL Offensive Play-Caller for 2025 Offseason

5. Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs

Reid's performance is viewed through a particular lens due to the Chiefs’ approach during the regular season. Much of the time was spent exploring various offensive strategies, even exploring what worked best toward the end of the season.

While there were impressive plays and solid sequencing, those efforts sometimes fell short against injuries among the receiving corps and to the offensive line. Nonetheless, the team still managed to rank 10th in EPA per play during the regular season.

Jason Kelce Shares Thoughts on Travis Kelce’s Future

Jason Kelce expressed on The Steam Room that his brother, Travis Kelce, likely knows what he wishes to do regarding retirement.

“I believe Travis, deep down, has made his decision,” Jason mentioned.

He elaborated, noting that when he retired last year, they discussed the matter several times, hinting that Travis would approach the decision simply: does he want to keep playing or step back?

“We’ve talked a little about it already, and I’m positive he’ll go through a process to reflect on it. Even though we’re quite alike, we also have our unique ways of processing such decisions. I tend to overthink things a lot, weighing all the negatives and possibilities. My brother has this straightforward approach: ‘Hey, do you want to play, or not?’,” Jason recalled.

Eagles' Nolan Smith Jr. Triumphs Despite Injury

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith Jr. not only clinched a championship but also showcased his incredible toughness.

Despite suffering a torn triceps during the Eagles’ dominating 40-22 triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs, Smith Jr. refused to sit out the second half, continuing to battle through the injury, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

Playing essentially with one arm, Smith Jr. still managed to record four pressures and two quarterback hits over 30 snaps, contributing to the pressure the Eagles' defensive line relentlessly applied to Kansas City's star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Top 10 PFF Rankings Feature Chiefs' Stars

Pro Football Focus recognized defensive tackle Chris Jones (No. 8) and center Creed Humphrey (No. 7) on the latest rankings, making Kansas City one of only three teams to have multiple players in the top 10.

Jones stands out as PFF’s top defensive tackle and second-best overall player, finishing sixth across the league with 74 total pressures this past season. Regarding Jones, PFF noted:

“Jones led all interior defenders with 88 pressures this season, achieving an impressive 91.5 pass-rush grade. This accomplishment marks the sixth time in the last seven seasons he has earned a rating above 90.0. Moreover, he only missed one tackle throughout the season, the fewest recorded by any defensive lineman who played at least 500 snaps.”

Micah Parsons, Tyreek Hill, and DK Metcalf Highlighted as Potential Trade Candidates

DK Metcalf

Seattle Seahawks · WR

Metcalf appears to be the top target from the NFC West this offseason, especially over others like Samuel or Kupp. His performance, entering age 27 with over 900 receiving yards in each of his six seasons, presents substantial value. As the Seahawks explore their future with emerging talents like Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who earned 1,100 receiving yards and a Pro Bowl selection in 2024, this could be an opportunity for Seattle to gather valuable draft capital for long-term growth.

Los Angeles Rams Open to Discussions on Matthew Stafford

The Rams have allowed Stafford’s representatives to engage with teams to gauge interest, as reported by NFL Network.

Stafford has two seasons left on a reworked contract agreed upon after the Rams' Super Bowl LVI victory in March 2022.

In 2024, the Rams and Stafford modified their agreement, a process that extended until the start of training camp. Rams head coach Sean McVay mentioned his hopes for clarity on the situation “sooner than later.”

Chiefs Roster: Potential Strengthening at Wide Receiver for 2035

Tutu Atwell

This Los Angeles Rams receiver, entering unrestricted free agency and setting new career highs in receptions (42), receiving yards (562), and an impressive catch rate (68%), could be a prime addition for the Chiefs. Given the limited pool of free-agent wideouts over 30, the potential 25-year-old Atwell may attract a competitive market, especially as he offers the speed necessary for crossing routes and deep shots.
