“(Defensive line) coach Joe [Cullen] has been instrumental in their development,” he noted. “Then, once the veterans arrived, they quickly integrated into the system. They grasp the concepts and the communication strategies we need to employ to challenge the quarterback effectively.”

He emphasized, “They are significantly ahead of where I was during my rookie season.”

Bolton’s confidence not only stems from practices but also from the in-depth film studies they’ve conducted.

“We have access to game footage on our iPads. In reviewing plays, I can pinpoint a call just by looking at it. These guys are making minimal mistakes, which is impressive. While football may never be flawless, the mental aspect can be as precise as possible!”

“A lot of their drills are individual, allowing you to observe players focusing on practice drops and maintaining proper eye progression,” he explained. “Even though it’s a fresh scheme for them, mastering those smaller details makes a difference.”

“I watched a specific play where the athlete's focus was misaligned. Simply adjusting your gaze can pave the way for the correct decisions and placements.”

“You can see his defensive back roots in his gameplay,” Bolton continued. “We joked about how he’s out there pressing like a cornerback.”

With a chuckle, he recalled a moment where Bassa displayed his confidence in coverage: “When we swap players, he might just switch things up a bit. His excitement to play coverage is promising for us.”
